Introduction

Hessel Kokke is General Manager of SpaceNed, the trade association for the Dutch space sector. SpaceNed represents more than 60 organisations, ranging from companies and knowledge institutions to universities. From its strategic and connecting role within this sector, SpaceNed works daily to strengthen the Netherlands’ position in international space travel, with a focus on innovation, collaboration and economic impact.

We met Hessel Kokke during the preparations for the Amsterdam Space Symposium, which will take place on 3 and 4 March 2026 at the Beurs van Berlage. The Symposium provides a platform for dialogue on the role and relevance of the space domain in addressing the security, defence and climate challenges we face.

Jean Butler, programme manager of the Beurs van Berlage Ambassador Programme: ‘His enthusiasm, vision and ability to connect people make Hessel Kokke a valuable ambassador for the Beurs van Berlage and for the future of space travel in the Netherlands.’

As General Manager of SpaceNed, Kokke stimulates dialogue between parties and ensures the connection between government objectives and industrial implementation. He sees the Beurs van Berlage as a platform that makes this collaboration visible. The location offers space for formal discussions, informal meetings and the presentation of cutting-edge technology in an impressive setting. He sees the Amsterdam Space Symposium as an opportunity to deepen international collaborations, launch new initiatives and inspire young talent.
