Beurs van Berlage and Resto VanHarte unite Amsterdammers in the fight against loneliness

On Monday, 13 January, the iconic Beurs van Berlage hosted a remarkable anniversary event: the 20th anniversary of Resto VanHarte. This milestone was celebrated with an inspiring congress and a festive dinner, bringing together hundreds of Amsterdammers in a spirit of connection and togetherness.

Resto VanHarte, a foundation dedicated to combating loneliness by organising accessible dinners for vulnerable groups, exemplified the kind of societal events that Beurs van Berlage facilitates. These activities highlight the role of the Beurs as a place where connection and inspiration take centre stage.

A gift to the city of Amsterdam

In 2025, Amsterdam celebrates its 750th anniversary. As the Palazzo Pubblico – the People’s Palace of the city – Beurs van Berlage feels deeply connected to Amsterdam’s community. The Resto VanHarte event is the first in a series of initiatives through which the Beurs will open its doors to Amsterdammers in 2025, fostering connection across the city.

“This event is a gift to the city of Amsterdam,” said Marcel Schonenberg, Managing Director of Beurs van Berlage. “Through events like these, we bring people together and celebrate what unites us: the city, its diversity, and the stories that enrich us. That is what our People’s Palace stands for. Tackling loneliness is an essential pillar of this mission.”

Social impact at the heart of Beurs van Berlage

The societal and cultural activities at Beurs van Berlage are made possible by Stichting Palazzo Pubblico Amsterdam. The foundation supports and facilitates initiatives that promote connection, inspiration, and accessibility for a wide audience. The Resto VanHarte event underscores the mission of the Beurs to be not just a venue but a place that makes a meaningful impact on society.

Voluntary efforts for an unforgettable evening

The Resto VanHarte anniversary dinner was made possible not only through financial support from Beurs van Berlage but also through the voluntary efforts of its office and hospitality staff. On the evening itself, they welcomed and served guests, contributing to the warm and hospitable atmosphere.

“The responses have been overwhelmingly positive; it truly makes us realise that we have achieved something unique together!” said Polle Janssens, Director of Resto VanHarte.

Future initiatives in honour of Amsterdam 750

In addition to the Resto VanHarte event, Beurs van Berlage will host numerous societal and cultural activities in 2025 to celebrate Amsterdam’s 750th anniversary. One of the highlights is the Vriendenconcert on 25 January, where music and history will come together to inspire and connect. Events like these underscore the role of Beurs van Berlage as a place where Amsterdam’s rich history is celebrated and a future of connection is built.
