Creating impact together

At the Beurs van Berlage, we believe events can be more than just a moment in time. As a venue where thousands of people gather every year, we feel a responsibility to give something back to society.

That is why every year we actively support one charitable organisation that aligns with our vision of sustainability, connection and creating lasting impact. Within our sustainability strategy, we call this “creating a legacy”: contributing to something that goes beyond the event itself.

In 2026, we are proud to support the ItsME Foundation.

About the ItsME Foundation

The ItsME Foundation is dedicated to raising awareness and supporting scientific research into meningitis and encephalitis. Every day, 10 to 15 people in the Netherlands are affected by these illnesses. The consequences are often severe. Many people do not survive or are left with long term complications such as memory loss, paralysis or cognitive impairment.

Despite its impact, meningitis and encephalitis are still relatively unknown.

The foundation was established by Jur Deitmers, known from the Dutch documentary The Boy Without Yesterday. Together with doctors, researchers and ambassadors such as Professor Erik Scherder and Olympic champion Ranomi Kromowidjojo, Stichting ItsME works towards faster recognition, better treatment and greater awareness.

Why we chose the ItsME Foundation?

Our colleague Kaitlyn lost her best friend Suus in 2024 due to the consequences of meningitis. Suus was only 17 years old.

After a fall in the summer of 2022, she likely contracted a flesh eating bacteria. The infection spread through her bloodstream to her brain, leaving her in a coma for a week. Despite a long recovery process and her incredible determination to fight back, she unexpectedly passed away in her sleep in May 2024.

Suus’ story deeply touched many colleagues at Beurs van Berlage.

Since then, Kaitlyn has wanted to make as many people as possible aware of what meningitis is and that it can happen to anyone. Her message is simple but powerful: enjoy the small things in life.

When we connected with the ItsME Foundation, the timing turned out to be perfect. As a relatively young foundation, they had just started discussing ways to increase visibility and awareness. We are honoured to help support that mission.

What we will do

Throughout the year, we will organise several initiatives together with the ItsME Foundation to raise awareness and funds for research.

These include:
• a charity event at Beurs van Berlage
• volunteer activities for employees
• participation in social and sporting events
• initiatives organised by colleagues
• attention for the ItsME Foundation during events and public activities

We are also exploring ways for event organisers and visitors to contribute directly through their events.
