On Wednesday 19 October, on the first day of Amsterdam Dance Event, the official opening of GOD IS A DJ will take place in the Beurs van Berlage in Amsterdam. GOD IS A DJ is the world’s first digital photo exhibition where the work of photographer Rutger Geerling can be seen.
The exhibition is presented by Samsung and is curated by the Fotomuseum aan het Vrijthof in Maastricht and until 13 November in the Beurs van Berlage. The photos can be seen on 80 digital Samsung screens, while the entire exhibition is presented by TEAM Eventmakers in collaboration with Eventim and Brok Décor.
Rutger Geerling has been a popular photographer at the largest festivals in the world since the early 1990s. For almost thirty years he has recorded shows, artists, audience, fireworks, number 1 DJs of the world and the soul of the dance world. A period in which he saw the electronic music industry grow into a worldwide phenomenon.
Geerling became “court photographer” of well-known festivals such as Sensation, Tomorrowland, Mysteryland and Ultra Music Festival. He has also collaborated with the world’s best DJs, such as Armin van Buuren, Hardwell, Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike, Fedde le Grand, W&W and many others. In 2015, Geerling won the prestigious Dutch Pop Media Award, partly as a result of his book This is my church, about 20 years of dance photography.
Geerling is looking forward to the exhibition: “It is a nice overview of the past thirty years, in which I have tried to capture almost all aspects. From life on the road to production, from stages to the heroes behind the turntables, from the dedication of the fans to the biggest shows. The great thing about this is that the music is the connecting factor. That’s something we need. Now more than ever.”
