Cellist and artistic director Pamela Smits has once again been able to put together a wonderful season of eight special concerts, with a selection of great musicians. The celebration of the existence of 750 years of Amsterdam runs like a common thread through the series.

Architectural Gesamtkunst

Art, according to the Amsterdam architect Hendrik Petrus Berlage (1856-1934), should do much more than just please and surprise: art should express what lives in society, or should live. In the art of his time, and in his case specifically in architecture, Berlage wanted to see the desire for 'brotherhood among all people' expressed. One of the characteristics of Berlage's work is that all his designs are based on the idea of ​​the Gesamtkunstwerk.

Berlage's great-grandson, cabaret artist and writer Vincent Bijlo, inherited Berlage's idea that art should say something about the world we live in, from his ancestor.

The music reinforces these stories and the architectural Gesamtkunst element.

In this 'Gesamtkunst' performance in De Beurs – a crown jewel from Berlage's oeuvre – great-grandfather, great-grandson and a quintet of passionate celebrated musicians are connected by space, text and music.

The band BLØF will go on tour in August and September with the ‘Strange Roads Tour’. During this tour the band will play at unique and historic locations in the Netherlands and Belgium, such as the Beurs van Berlage in Amsterdam and the Hamtoren in Vleuten.

Vreemde Wegen Tour (Strange Roads Tour)

The band itself says the following: “Every location we visit on the ‘Strange Roads Tour’ has its own story and atmosphere, which makes this concert series so special. We are really looking forward to it,” says BLØF.

In this intimate setting, BLØF mainly plays small songs that fans haven’t heard in a while.

BLØF is one of the most successful bands in the Netherlands. They broke through with the single ‘Liefs uit London’ and have since scored numerous hits such as ‘Aanzoek Zonder Ringen’, ‘Alles Is Liefde’, ‘Holiday In Spain’ and ‘Zoutelande’. The band has won many music prizes and awards, including eight Edisons and the Pop Prize. In 2022 they were appointed Knight in the Order of Orange-Nassau. BLØF has been organizing their own festival Concert at SEA on the Brouwersdam in Zeeland for nineteen years and gave sold-out concerts in large halls such as the Ziggo Dome.

What a night! On Friday, February 2nd, Hotelvrijmibo XL: Cirque de l’hôtel unfolded in the Beurs van Berlage, offering a journey into a world of enchantment, vibrant performances, and magical connections.

From the beats of Happy Feelings Soundsystem and the energy of Team TNT to the electrifying tunes of Joshua Walter, the night pulsated with music that kept everyone on their feet. Acrobats defied gravity, a snake charmer captured our attention, and glitter stylists from HR Group added a touch of sparkle. The Silent Disco by Minor Hotels brought a unique vibe, and It’s Poppin’ popcorn booth by Leonardo Hotels added a tasty twist.

Get ready for the biggest chocolate event of the year: Amsterdam Cocoa Week! In collaboration with the World Cocoa Foundation and Cocoa of Excellence, this week-long celebration culminates in Chocoa 2024, our grandest event yet. Join us for a diverse array of activities, including the World Cocoa Foundation's Partnership Meeting in the same venue as Chocoa.

Amsterdam area is preparing to celebrate cocoa and chocolate during the Amsterdam Cocoa & Chocolate Week in February. The World Cocoa Foundation will organise their Partnership Meeting in Amsterdam on the 6-7 February in the same venue as Chocoa. 

Amsterdam is the largest cocoa port in the world, an important hub for business and for innovative thinking on the sustainability of the cocoa value chains.  So, mark your calendars, other cocoa and chocolate related initiatives are being prepared as we speak. A week not to miss!

CHOCOA CHOCOLATE FESTIVAL

To all Chocolate lovers in the world!

The Chocoa Chocolate Festival will open its doors again on February 10 and 11!

For the 10th time we organize this two-day Chocolate Festival in the heart of Amsterdam.

Tasting, enjoying and discovering new flavours of chocolate. Straight or paired with wine, coffee, tea and craft beer at the more than 90 stands.

Chocolate makers come from all over the world to Amsterdam and bring their finest products. Chocolates that you may have never seen before. Take a journey through the cocoa chain and learn how chocolate is being made from bean to bar.

The aim of this 'holiday fair for special trips' is to create an environment where mass tourism does not set the tone, but where quality and authenticity are chosen selectively!

Fair for Special Journeys Amsterdam 2024

At this special holiday fair you will not find any tourist information stands, but almost exclusively specialized tour operators, who often offer a country or a type of travel and know everything about it! In addition to going off the beaten track, ‘special’ also means that your journey only starts in the country or area of arrival. These are often active holidays and not sitting or beach holidays.

The tournament took place on May 4 and 5 in the Beurs van Berlage in Amsterdam. The European champion could prepare for the World Championship, which was  held in Los Angeles on 8 June. Fans who wanted to encourage their favorite team during the final in Amsterdam could sign up for a limited number of tickets. If you could not make it, you could follow the live stream on Twitch and on YouTube.
