How do you celebrate your birthday in an appropriate and impressive way for board members and relations? For ARAG Netherlands, XSAGA organized an exclusive conference of international allure in honor of its 60th birthday, in the Beurs van Berlage in Amsterdam. Led by presenter Rick Nieman, the guests looked ahead based on the theme 'Making a difference'. What is coming at us and how do we ensure that justice remains accessible to everyone? The future literally flew over the guests during the spectacular opening by Another Kind of Blue with their unique drone dance act. In addition, there were impressive speakers. Such as Princess Laurentien, who emphasized the importance of an inclusive society. But also British bestselling author Richard Susskind and international human rights lawyer Nani Jansen Reventlow, who gave a fiery speech about the future of the law. The last of the substantive program was former Commander of the Armed Forces Peter van Uhm about what price you sometimes have to pay to make a difference. Finally, the guests were treated to an impressive unveiling of the subsequent drinks and walking dinner through a smoke-enveloped mystery box that went up into the air to loud applause. At the end of September 2021, we hosted the 15th ACM Conference on Recommender Systems – the premier international forum for the presentation of new research results, systems and techniques in the broad field of recommender systems.
A truely successful hybrid event
RecSys brings together the major international research groups working on recommender systems, along with many of the world’s leading companies active in e-commerce and other adjacent domains. It has become the most important annual conference for the presentation and discussion of recommender systems research. In recognition of the role of the conference in bringing the recommender systems community together, the theme of RecSys 2021 was “A place to meet and exchange”.
Due to all the restrictiosns, we combined a live audience in Amsterdam with a worldwide based online audience, speakers who were physically present in Amsterdam as well as speakers who joined us live from all over the world – making it a very succesful hybrid event.
A truely amazing phenomenon, when a speaker in China, answers questions from a delegate in the US, joined by a live audience in Amsterdam. We like it and we hope to be able to do it again very soon!
During this event, the applicable security measures were constantly taken into account by both the guests and the organisation.
