It tells the story of the camp prisoners in the Theresienstadt concentration camp who executed the Requiem of Verdi 16 times in 1943/44 as an act of resistance. The last time was on 23 June 1944 for the International Red Cross and German dignitaries.
The performance takes place at the Beurs van Berlage in Amsterdam as part of the national celebration of 75 years of freedom. The date of implementation on 3 May underlines the theme of “liberation / freedom": on that day in 1945 the camp was officially handed over to the Red Cross.
The concert drama is broadcast live by the NOS.
