Because of many requests Berlage, Godfather of Dutch Design is now included with a guided tour through parts of the building for an additional € 4,-.
Berlage could be considered to be the most important designer in Dutch history. He not only designed the Beurs van Berlage, but also the many exceptional objects and pieces of furniture inside the building. His influence on the appearance of the Netherlands is immense. The building of the former stock exchange is generally seen as the starting point of modern Dutch architecture. Contemporary designers still take inspiration from his work. The exhibition testifies: Berlage’s DNA continues to affect, his design principles are very much alive in contemporary Dutch Design.
Berlage, Godfather of Dutch Design showcases authentic pieces of furniture from Berlage hand from the turn of the century. Many of them unique historical pieces from the the Beurs van Berlage’s collection. The exhibit dissects Berlage’s style and presents the grace and tenacity of current Dutch Design through a number of contemporary examples. Works of more than 20 Dutch designers can be seen in the exhibition, among them Maarten Baas and Joost van Bleiswijk.
The exhibition coincides with the re-opening of the renovated Beurs van Berlage. The new Beurs van Berlage houses a brand new exhibition space in the basement, fittingly introduced with Berlage, Godfather of Dutch Design.
Berlage, Godafther of Dutch Design is a Beurs van Berlage initiative, in collaboration with Stichting Zetel.
Berlage, Godfather of Dutch Design can be visited daily from 22 November 2015 until 29 May 2016 at the Beurs van Berlage, Damrak 243, Amsterdam. Opening hours: 11:00 - 17:00. Tickets: € 7,50. Youngsters (under 16), 65+, studentents: € 5,50. Tickets are including a consumption in our Grand Café. Special rated for groups and school visits. For an additional guided tour through Beurs van Berlage you will pay € 4,- extra.
