By boat to Hannekes Boom
If you are looking for an informal setting, Hannekes Boom (‘Boom’ is the Dutch word for ‘tree’) is highly recommended. This cafe is right alongside the water. When spring starts, and the first sunrays appear, boats pass by all day long. This brings a pleasant bustle throughout the day, and the atmosphere here is wonderfully relaxed. You can easily spend the whole day here, as they are open here until 01:00 every day, and even until 03:00 on Fridays and Saturdays.

P.S. Occasionally there are also (free) performances in this urban paradise, so keep an eye on their website!
Spot ships at EYE bar-restaurant
Another terrace alongside the water: Eye bar-restaurant alongside the river IJ. The building stands out immediately if you leave Amsterdam Central on the north side. You reach this location with the (free) ferry. The atmosphere here is unique. This is mainly due to the impressive architecture of the building. The southern wall of the building consists entirely out of glass, creating an impressive cinematic effect. Because of this unique view, this is the perfect place to enjoy the passing boats and ships on this river in both good and bad weather.

Eating and drinking next to the wild animals in De Plantage
A visit to Amsterdam is not complete without a visit to the famous zoo – Artis – in the heart of the city. The same applies to the nearby café-restaurant De Plantage. The restaurant is tastefully decorated. There is a beautiful terrace in summer and spring. In addition, De Plantage has an impressive 19th-century conservatory. From this place you look out on the Artis aviary. In addition to the interior and location, De Plantage’s menu is definitely worth tasting, in other words: highly recommended!

Oasis of peace at De L’Europe
This 5-star hotel is only a 15-minute walk from Amsterdam Central Station. On their website they call the terrace of their Hoofdstad Brasserie “Thè Terrace”. And this is not without reason. You can enjoy a beautiful, wide view over the Amstel. The entire terrace is covered by parasols, making it also wonderful to be here in the middle of the summer. There is plenty of choice on the extensive menu, making it easy to spend an entire afternoon here.

Visit the market square at In de Waag
Just like (almost) every city, Amsterdam also has well-known market squares. One of these squares is the Nieuwmarkt. This square is within walking distance of the Central Station, and is certainly worth a visit. There is a daily market, and the square is surrounded by various restaurants. However, the most famous restaurant on this square is located right in the middle: the monumental Restaurant-Café In de Waag. Initially built as a city gate, you can now enjoy the unique ambiance inside the building, on the terrace you enjoy the liveliness of the market square itself.

Experimenting at NEMO
NEMO is the perfect place to experiment in Amsterdam. Especially for children, the museum is the perfect place to get in touch with science. This interactive character can also be found in the museum’s restaurant. Located on the roof of the museum, it offers a view of the outdoor exhibition on the interaction between people and the elements. This height naturally also offers a perfect view of the city. Be amazed!

Spotting fashion trends at Bistro Berlage
With the Kalverstraat, Rokin and the Bijenkorf, the Paleiskwartier is the area where many fashion chains are located in Amsterdam. This offers the perfect opportunity to spot fashion trends. And where better to do this than in a monumental setting, directly opposite the exit of the Bijenkorf? Bistro Berlage is, as the name suggests, located in the famous Beurs van Berlage. The extensive, sun-drenched terrace on Beursplein is ideal for spotting the latest fashion trends, whilst enjoying a nice drink of bite to eat.
