Esports is booming and has now even become a billion-dollar business. Companies see potential in this new branch of sport and use it as a tool to generate awareness among the generally more difficult target group: youngsters. For example, Mercedes recently launched the “Esports program". They contracted young gamers to compete in the official Formula 1 Esports competition on behalf of Mercedes. In comparison with other countries, Esport tournaments are relatively new in the Netherlands. There are tournaments here and there, but they are often small in size. However, everything shows that the tipping point is almost reached. There is a high demand for large tournaments from Esports enthusiasts and the attention from companies that want to commit themselves to them is also increasing. The expectation is therefore that the number of Esports tournaments in the Netherlands will increase soon. So which city should you than choose to host your Esport? Of course we suggest Amsterdam. But what makes Amsterdam the ideal hotspot for Esports events? Amsterdam has the perfect backdrop for such specific events, mainly due to the following two assets:

1. The entrepreneurial, rebellious nature Esports stands for young, new, stubborn and fast. The open-minded, internationally oriented, entrepreneurial and rebellious nature of Amsterdam fits in perfectly with that. In the eyes of the Esports target group, Amsterdam is an iconic city. It appeals to the imagination enormously and young people often already know Amsterdam without ever having been there. Moreover, it has a pleasant atmosphere and there is much to experience. And not to forget; the internet connections and (hotel) facilities are mind-blowingly good up here.

2. Imagine a top accessibility: you land at Schiphol Airport, take the train and in five minutes you walk from the train station to the event location (Beurs van Berlage). And within a ten minute walk you are already in your hotel. Along the way you will see cafes, shops, coffee shops, the Red Light District and other interesting sights. The fact that everything in Amsterdam can be reached within walking distance or by bike is not only pleasant for the gamers, who have since achieved star status. It is also important for the hundreds of tournament visitors but, it is necessary that they like the city and are willing to travel there.

3. Nightlife: Amsterdam is the vibrant heart of the Netherlands with a culture that is known all over the world. This makes the venue even more attractive for the, relatively young, visitors and participants of Esports events. After the event there is more than enough to explore in the city itself. Amsterdam is of course famous for its bustling nightlife. There are many cafés and clubs to visit. For example, our building is located only a few minutes away from the Red Light District. Even though the area has had a questionable reputation, the area has made fantastic developments throughout the last few years. It has become a wonderful attraction to visit the district which now hosts many shops and cafés as well!
