Amsterdam Light Festival

Beurs van Berlage proud partner Amsterdam Light Festival

From November 29, 2018 through January 20, 2019, the 7th edition of the Amsterdam Light Festival will take place. During this winter light art festival, over 30 works of art and installations by (international) artists, designers and architects illuminate the inner city of Amsterdam.

Every year the festival throws a new light on the city. This year the artists have been inspired by the theme 'The Medium is the Message'. The idea behind this famous statement by the Canadian scientist Marshall McLuhan was simple: not only the message itself is important, but also the way we steer it. Light plays an important role as a messenger in various ways.

In addition to the light art works, there is also a lot to discover about the theme in Amsterdam itself. Light as 'medium' occurs at various places in the city. Sometimes literally and sometimes through stories about the history of buildings, streets or bridges.

Like every year, the festival can be admired both sailing, cycling and walking. The artworks are illuminated daily from 5 pm to 11 pm during the festival period
(during New Year's Eve until 8 pm).

Amsterdam Light Walk

During the Light Festival, the Amsterdam Light Walk will be organised, with light-filled canals, streets and various Christmas markets in the richly lit Amsterdam. As one of the highlights you can admire the light artworks of the Amsterdam Light Festival. The starting point of the walk will be the Beursplein, where the first work of art will be sponsored by the Beurs van Berlage.

Before you start your walk, you can first warm up in Bistro Berlage and ensure that your stomach is full so that you can start your walk full of energy.
